Student Bill of Rights

 

Behavioral

 

Students should expect:

 

1.        to be treated with respect and dignity.

2.        fairness - rules are applied to all, equally (with allowances for extenuating circumstances)

3.        to receive clear, well defined behavioral expectations (communicated verbally AND in writing) 

 

a.      Any student who creates an ongoing disruption to the classes’ ability to learn should be dealt with quickly and seriously.

 

4.        to be respectfully heard if conflicts with teacher arises

 

Academic

 

Students should expect:

 

1.        highly prepared and well organized lessons and lab activities

2.        a disciplined, focused and orderly classroom environment

3.        a lesson that is broken down into simply, easy to follow steps

4.        appropriately paced instruction (i.e – Honors, Regents)

5.        a classroom atmosphere where questions are highly encouraged.

6.        extra help sessions are on set days each week. (Tuesdays, Thursdays)

7.        supplementary materials to facilitate and enhance learning (worksheets, visuals)

 

Assignments and Grading

 

Students should expect:

 

1.        clear, well defined expectations  for all assignments (communicated verbally AND in writing) 

2.        to be given the necessary time to complete extended projects (i.e. Lab Reports – 1 week)

3.        the prompt grading of tests, labs, homeworks and quizzes

4.        the prompt return of graded papers.

a.      (Tests, HW, quizzes etc.  1 - 2 days after all papers have been handed in. Lab Reports – about 6 teaching days )

5.        answers and explanations for all homeworks on the day after they are assigned

6.        total grading transparency - students will know exactly how their grade is calculated (weighting)

a.      Students should have the ability to calculate their quarter grade based on these teacher weightings and respectfully dispute a grade if it is found to be incorrect
